East of the Old City, the Ping River runs north to south through the city. The west bank has the Night Bazaar and Warorot Market. The east bank, Wat Ket, is on the other side of the bridges.
On location, this is the weakest of our three Chiang Mai areas on average, and it holds the lowest single location score we list in the city, 8.6 at Gategaa Village. That tells you something real about the trade: from here, the Old City’s temples are a ride rather than a short walk.
What you get in return is range. Kittawan Home&Gallery, on the east bank, is the cheapest property we list in Chiang Mai. At the other end, Maladee Rendezvous on the west bank has the best comfort score we have recorded in the city, and no score on its board below 9.4.

Local tips
- Maladee Rendezvous is on the west bank near the Night Bazaar; Puripunn Hideaway, Gategaa Village and Kittawan are across the river in Wat Ket
- Gategaa Village and Puripunn Hideaway are about 130 metres apart and score 8.6 and 9.1 for location, so the score is not only about distance
- Our picks here are roughly 1.3 to 2.2km from Tha Phae Gate in a straight line, so most trips into the Old City mean Grab or Bolt
