When to go
November to April is the dry season on the Andaman coast and the busiest time. May to October brings the southwest monsoon, with more rain, rougher seas and ferries that can be cancelled.
Koh Phi Phi is a small archipelago in Krabi province, between the mainland and Phuket. Everything here happens on Phi Phi Don, the only inhabited island.
There are no roads and no cars. The village sits on the flat isthmus between Ton Sai Bay, where the ferries dock, and Loh Dalum Bay on the other side, and you get anywhere else on foot or by longtail boat. That single fact decides most of where you stay: our Ton Sai picks are within about 1.1km of the pier, and the rest need a boat.
We cover four areas: Ton Sai and Loh Dalum around the village, Long Beach to the south-east, Loh Bagao on the east coast, and Laem Tong at the northern tip. Phi Phi Leh, the uninhabited island with Maya Bay on it, has no accommodation at all and is a day trip from here.
