Koh Phi Phi at a glance
Koh Phi Phi is a small archipelago in Krabi province, between the mainland and Phuket. Everything here happens on Phi Phi Don, the only inhabited island.
There are no roads and no cars. The village sits on the flat isthmus between Ton Sai Bay, where the ferries dock, and Loh Dalum Bay on the other side, and you get anywhere else on foot or by longtail boat. That single fact decides most of where you stay: our Ton Sai picks are within about 1.1km of the pier, and the rest need a boat.
We group our picks into two halves, because that is the choice the island actually presents. Ton Sai & Long Beach is the village end: the isthmus around the pier, which you can walk, and the long strand south-east of it, which is a boat ride or a rough walk away. Loh Bagao & Laem Tong is the east coast bay and the northern cape, and you reach both of those by boat. Phi Phi Leh, the uninhabited island with Maya Bay on it, has no accommodation at all and is a day trip from here.
