Koh Lanta at a glance
Koh Lanta is two islands in Krabi province. The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources lists Ko Lanta Noi at about 73 square kilometres and Ko Lanta Yai at about 78, and since 2016 the Siri Lanta Bridge has joined them. Everything we list is on Lanta Yai.
The arrival point is Saladan, at the northern tip, where the ferries and speedboats from Krabi, Phi Phi and Phuket come in. Cars cross from the mainland to Lanta Noi by car ferry: a bridge to replace it had its construction contract signed on 31 August 2026, so for now that ferry is the road in. From Saladan the beaches run south down the west coast: Klong Dao, Long Beach, Relax Bay, Klong Khong, Klong Nin, then Kantiang and Klong Chak near the southern tip, where the national park headquarters sits on the cape. The Old Town, Ban Si Raya, is on the other side of the island, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand describes Lanta’s communities as Thai Buddhist, Muslim, Chinese and Chao Ley.
