What we checked, 18 September 2026

Checked on 18 September 2026. The address and the licensed operator come from the municipality's own market register. The operator's website returned a Cloudflare origin error on every attempt over roughly twenty minutes and its Facebook page could not be read, so hours are OpenStreetMap's and are described as such. We have not been.

Verified via. Chiang Mai Municipality's register of markets in the city lists Warorot as a type 1 market at 10 and 12 Wichayanon Road, Chang Moi, licensed to Chiang Mai Phanit Co., Ltd. OpenStreetMap records the market at 18.7902, 99.0005 with hours of 07:00-18:00 daily.

Admission

It is a market with open entrances and no ticket, and no authority says anything about entry either way. Chiang Mai Municipality's market register lists it with its licensee and address and nothing about charges.

Warorot, known locally as Kad Luang, the big market, is a multi-storey market hall on Wichayanon Road by the Ping River, with the flower market and the Chinese quarter around it. It is where Chiang Mai does its own shopping, and it is the best place in the city to buy northern Thai food to take away: sai ua sausage, nam prik chilli pastes, pork crackling, dried fruit and tea.

Who runs it. Chiang Mai Municipality’s register of markets lists it as a type 1 market at 10 and 12 Wichayanon Road, licensed to Chiang Mai Phanit Co., Ltd. That is the extent of the official record we could reach.

Hours, with a caveat. The operator’s website was down throughout our check with a server-side error, and the municipality’s register gives no hours. OpenStreetMap records 07:00 to 18:00 daily. Secondary sources vary on how early it opens, and the streets around the building carry on into the evening.

Getting the best of it. Morning, when the produce is freshest and before the heat builds under the roof. The ground floor is food, the upper floors are clothes and household goods, and the flower market on the riverside is at its best early.

What we have not done. Shopped there.
