Khao Tao

Khao Tao is the southern end of Hua Hin municipality, from Suan Son Pradiphat beach south to the village of Khao Tao and the beaches below Khao Tao hill, where the municipality meets Pran Buri district.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes Khao Tao village as an old community and home to the Khao Tao Reservoir, a project initiated by the late King Bhumibol, with a community trail linking the reservoir, the village and the beach. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ directory says beaches run along both sides of Khao Tao hill, a long one and a smaller, quieter one.

It is also the area where our bar bites hardest. Four of the seven places we cover here are Researched Picks; the other three clear our Also Listed floor but not the 8.5 we want on both platforms. Averaged across every listing, this is the lowest-scoring of our six Hua Hin areas, and that is not a quirk of one bad property: it is a village where the accommodation is genuinely mixed.

The gaps are the story. Location scores run from 9.7 down to 7.1 and wifi from 8.8 down to 2.5, each the widest range of any area we cover around Hua Hin.

Charras Bhawan is a set of beachfront villas at around ฿15,561 a night for 15 to 18 November 2026, with no price for 12 to 15 January 2027, and the highest-scoring thing we list in the village. Kao Tao Villa Beach Resort has a pool and a private beach area about 90 metres from the village centre, at around ฿1,900. Thai House Resort, just over the line in Pran Buri district, has Thai-style bungalows at around ฿1,900 for 15 to 18 November 2026, with no price for 12 to 15 January 2027, and The Spirit Resort has pool villas 2.3km inland, with the lowest location score we list anywhere around Hua Hin.

The three Also Listed places are all worth knowing about for one specific thing each, and worth checking carefully on everything else. None of our picks here carries more than 1,058 combined reviews, the thinnest ceiling of the six areas, so there is less evidence behind these numbers than elsewhere in Hua Hin.
