A two-star in the pier village, and the numbers are better than the star rating suggests. Staff 9.6, comfort 9.5, cleanliness 9.4, value 9.2. The two stars are about what the property offers, not how well it does it.

The platforms disagree slightly and in a useful direction: Booking.com says 9.0 from 828 reviews, Agoda says 9.3 from 188. The larger sample gives the lower figure, so treat 9.0 as the honest number and 9.3 as encouraging.

Location scores 9.1, behind Sairee’s 9.6 and MAR24’s 9.3 at Chalok, and level with or ahead of both east coast listings. That is Mae Haad’s whole argument: you are ten minutes from Sairee, fifteen from Chalok, and walking distance from the pier every boat uses.

That last point is worth more than it sounds. Koh Tao’s ferries leave early, seas here cancel departures without much warning, and the alternative to walking is arranging a pickup on a dark road at six in the morning. For a first night or a last night on the island, this is a genuinely practical choice.

What you do not get is a beach. Mae Haad’s waterfront is a working harbour. For sand you walk ten minutes north, which at this price and with these scores is a reasonable thing to be asked to do.
