Khao Khanab Nam

Khao Khanab Nam is the pair of limestone towers standing in the river just north of Krabi Town, about a hundred metres high, with the water running between them. They are on the provincial seal, and they are the thing you photograph from the promenade before deciding whether to go closer.

Getting there, from the authorities that publish it. Krabi Town Municipality says you hire a longtail at Chao Fa Pier and the trip takes fifteen minutes. The provincial administration adds a second option from the municipal pier, about twenty minutes, at 300 baht per boat. Read that carefully: per boat, not per person, so it divides sensibly among four or six. Neither page carries a date, so treat the rate as indicative.

What you do when you get there. The municipality says you can walk up to the caves, and the environmental policy office’s register of protected natural sites records a stepped path with interpretive signs and shelters with benches. The same register notes the site was designated for conservation by a cabinet resolution in November 1989.

What nobody will tell us. Whether there is a charge at the caves, and when they open. Figures from 30 to 200 baht circulate for foreigners, all of them from travel sites. The one government page with an hours field gives 01:30 to 10:00 daily, which is plainly an error in a database rather than a schedule, and we mention it only so you know what we are working with.

What we have not done. Been. The boat is somebody else’s fifteen minutes, not ours.
