Mae Nam runs along Samui’s north-west coast, and Bang Por is the stretch at its western end where the land climbs away from the water. Administratively they are the same subdistrict, and for a visitor they are the same proposition: quiet, green, cheaper, and a drive from everything.
The location scores are unambiguous. Panorama scores 7.7, Code Samui and TUI BLUE both score 8.0. Those are the three lowest location scores in our entire Samui set, and they are consistent enough to read as a fact about the area rather than a fluke of any one property.
That consistency is why this page carries a warning the others do not. Budget for a car. We know from staying at Panorama that a 50cc scooter will not make it up the hill at Bang Por with two people on it, and it is not the only property up here with a steep approach. It is telling that several places on this coast, Code Samui and Panorama among them, run their own shuttle service. Hotels do not staff a shuttle up their own driveway unless the driveway is a problem.
What you get for accepting that is the most hotel per baht on the island. Our three listings here run from ฿2,183 to ฿2,957 a night, and the cheapest of them is a five-star. On the east coast that money buys a three-star.
Worth being straight about one thing: cheap prices are not the same as a high value score. Guests here rate value 8.4 to 8.6, below what they give several pricier properties elsewhere, which is the location penalty showing up in a different column.
